PLA Rainbow

One spool, the whole spectrum. Long transitions, zero tangles.

$14.99 / spool on Amazon US

Crystal Rainbow is one colorway that behaves like a whole palette. The strand moves through red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet in long, slow transitions on a translucent Crystal base, so light passes through the print and the colors glow instead of sitting flat.

A rainbow spool only works if it unwinds perfectly for the whole kilogram; a tangle at hour 30 ruins the story. That is why this line leans on tangle-free mechanical winding, checked spool by spool. Load it, start something tall, and let the material decide the color scheme.

USE-CASE GUIDANCE

Where it earns its keep.

Go tall to tell the whole story

Transitions are long by design, so a small trinket may live inside a single hue. Vases, towers, and spiral prints move through several colors in one job. On this spool, scale is the setting that matters most.

See PLA Silk

Backlight it

The Crystal base is translucent. Print thin walls, two or three perimeters, and put a light behind or inside the piece: lamps, window ornaments, and luminaries are where this material earns its name.

Plan around the spool position

Where the rainbow starts depends on where the spool sits when you press print. Treat it as a collaborator, not a color picker. If one part must be one exact hue, print that part from the 22-color PLA wall instead.

Print tips

  • Standard PLA settings apply: 200 to 220 °C nozzle, 70 to 80 °C bed.
  • Two or three perimeters with no infill make the translucent base glow.
  • Print matching sets back to back; consecutive prints share neighboring hues.
  • Temperatures at the low end of the range keep the Crystal base clearest.

THE HONEST BIT

Good at this. Not at that.

Every material has a job. Here is where this one belongs, and where it does not.

Best for

FAQ

Buyer questions, straight answers.

How fast do the colors change?

Slowly, on purpose. Expect one to three hues on a mid-size print and the full cycle across large pieces. Small prints may sit inside a single color.

Can I pick which color it starts on?

Only by unwinding to the hue you want, since the start point depends on where the spool sits. Honest answer: treat the starting color as a surprise.

Is it actually translucent?

Yes. The base is the same Crystal you will find on our PLA wall, so thin walls pass light. Thick, solid prints read more opaque.
